  • Los Angeles-Based Kfir Gavrieli and Tieks Raise $87,782 for Ukrainian Refugees in Virtual Auction

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India — Tieks by Gavrieli recently hosted the #TieksForUkraine virtual auction and raffle to help the crisis in Ukraine. The online event featured the company’s signature ballet flats with 100% of the proceeds supporting Ukrainian refugees. Thanks to the generous donations and bids from Tieks fans, the company raised a massive $87,782 for the cause.

The popular online retailer will be donating that lump sum to the World Central Kitchen #ChefsforUkraine initiative. The organization has set up camp on eight border crossings, supporting refugees with millions of meals around the clock. The borders encompassed by this initiative include Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova, and Hungry, among others. Volunteers are hard at work, offering families meals and supplies as they flee the war.

The Tieks online event saw past limited edition shoes and bygone styles up for sale. For the first time, fans of the brand had the opportunity to buy one-of-a-kind styles through bidding. The four-day-long charity bonanza included a raffle in which people could win some never-seen-before prizes. When the event opened, the first two hours saw thousands of bids flying in, with many rare ballet shoes going for more than $4,000.

“I am humbled that my company can serve as a conduit for such a meaningful purpose through this auction,” Kfir Gavrieli, founder of Tieks, said. “In solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who have lost so much and shown immense courage and strength, our community wants to contribute to the Ukrainian people in a meaningful way. My hope is that through the auction proceeds, World Central Kitchen will be able to provide tens of thousands of meals for Ukrainians braving this unimaginable war.”

The raffle cost just $1 to enter and featured one grand prize — Mirage, a one-of-a-kind pair of ballet flats in a sparkly sand hue. One lucky entrant, Tesia C., won the shoes as part of the event. However, there were plenty more prizes available. Ten other entrants were given $100 gift vouchers to be spent at the online website’s bespoke BouTiek.

It doesn’t end there. Tieks fans were eager to bid for their favorite ballet shoes in the auction. The Brown Ostrich Tieks went for the highest price, fetching a massive $6,500. Those were closely followed by the Giraffe Tieks at $5,100 and then the Arabian Night design at $5,010, and Tosani also at $5,010. The Black Ostrich shoes were just a dollar behind at $5,009, with True Love Red coming in at $3,055 and Red Diamond at $2,501.

Before now, limited edition Tieks were released on special occasions, like the Back Friday sales. Since the limited-edition designs are always popular, they tend to sell out within 24 to 48 hours of going live on the website. Tieks has always drawn the attention of followers of the brand with unique designs. The #TieksForUkraine gave fans a chance to get their hands on these coveted designs while supporting a cause.

  • Skill Building Is Essential in Today’s Workforce, Finds University of Phoenix Career Optimism Index

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India — Workplaces are changing rapidly. They are responding to advances in technology and changes in employee expectations and shifting their focus to align with a more connected, personalized world. The good news is that employees are eager to grow their skill sets to match the needs of the evolving workplace. The bad news is that employers think they are offering those skill-building opportunities but may not be making them available or communicating them well enough. And that’s leading top employees to seek opportunities elsewhere with companies that are openly committed to employee growth.

The University of Phoenix 2022 Career Optimism Index took a comprehensive look at how 5,000 U.S. adults who work or wished to work felt about their career prospects. The Index also included survey results from 500 employers, allowing for a comparison between employees’ and employers’ perceptions around available resources, support for advancement and training opportunities. The survey revealed that there were often large gaps between what employers thought they were offering when it came to skill-building opportunities and what their employees believed was available.

    Employer-Employee Perception Gap

The Career Optimism Index found that just 44 percent of employed Americans believed that their employer offered full or partial financial support for additional education or training, despite the fact that 82 percent of employers claim to offer this perk. And while 92 percent of employers report that their employees have the tools they need to succeed, just 77 percent of American workers believe they have these needed tools. Many American workers, four in 10 according to the Index, do not see a clear path to advancement in their careers, and 29 percent do not feel optimistic that they’ll be given the opportunity to learn new skills at work.

Upskilling opportunities are critical in order for employers to attract and retain top talent, and this perception gap is leading many employees to look for work elsewhere. Nearly two-thirds of American workers say they would be likely to remain in their jobs if there were clear opportunities to gain new skills and advance.

“People know they need to get more skills, and they’re not sure how to go about it,” said John Woods, provost and chief academic officer at University of Phoenix. “They’re saying they need awareness of upskilling opportunities, access to them and support for them. Employers think they’re providing it. Employees don’t think they’re getting it.”

    Understanding Upskilling and Reskilling

With a growing demand for added tech skills as numerous positions across industries have become more digitally-focused, upskilling is becoming more common. Upskilling is when employers offer training and development programs to employees in order to fill skill gaps. Amazon, for instance, offers a number of upskilling opportunities to its employees including a Machine Learning University, a technical academy, and prepaid tuition toward qualified certificate and diploma programs.

Reskilling is about training employees in skills that will allow them to transition seamlessly into new roles. It essentially means the company is looking ahead, identifying where they will need talent, and developing that talent from within their own ranks. “This not only allows employers to remain productive,” noted an article on reskilling in HR Daily Advisor, “but also may be an essential component of employee development plans, which will have an impact on employee retention.

The article further outlined that there is always a danger that employers will invest in skill building with employees only to have them find new opportunities elsewhere once they’ve gained new skills. But, they add, the alternative is a stagnant workforce, which can be a much riskier proposition for the future health of the business.

Upskilling and reskilling opportunities are crucial in today’s job marketplace where companies are competing for top talent. Following the COVID-19 pandemic came the Great Resignation, when a massive number of workers left the workforce and left employers with significant gaps to fill. Today’s job seekers have new expectations for employers, sentiments reflected in the Career Optimism Index. Among their top priorities are training and professional development opportunities. Top candidates are looking for jobs where there is the greatest potential to learn and grow.

Barriers to Companies’ Offering Upskilling and Reskilling

Through surveys of 500 employers, the 2022 Career Optimism Index was able to provide a clear picture of the barriers preventing business leaders from offering the upskilling and reskilling opportunities that employees are seeking. For 42 percent of employers, these include lack of time to invest in employee training programs. Suggesting a major disconnect, some 39 percent of employers did not believe employees were sufficiently interested in upskilling opportunities.

Another 38 percent of employers had not taken the time to identify the skills gaps they needed to fill. Some 35 percent had not budgeted for skill-building programs, and 33 percent had not yet decided how their learning and development programs should be structured. Twenty-nine percent of employers had not yet connected with education partners who could help them to design and implement professional development training programs.

But while employers may be avoiding implementing employee training programs for cost reasons, the cost of losing employees is much higher. It costs about 20-50 percent of an employee’s annual salary to replace them when factoring in direct costs like hiring, training and reduced productivity during the transition. Even entry-level positions can cost a company big, but developing that entry level employee into a skilled, higher-level worker can be an investment that reaps big rewards for the company.

Collaborating with University of Phoenix to Provide Skill Building for Employees

University of Phoenix is hyper focused on aligning its degree programs with in-demand workplace skills, but it is not only focused on helping students in traditional degree and certificate programs in its virtual classrooms. The University also collaborates with businesses to provide skill building for their employees through an online learning platform called Workforce Solutions.

Using Workforce Solutions, University of Phoenix works with companies to create a tailored solution to advance employee skill sets and help position the business for future success. A representative meets with company leadership to determine critical skill gaps and then helps to identify solutions that will work with a business’ needs using a combination of college-level courses and programs. These might include such professional skills as communications, online marketing, social media, cybersecurity and data analytics.

“University of Phoenix is focused on our students being career-ready, and our Workforce Solutions brings that focus to help companies develop a career relevant workforce,” said Collene Bay-Andersen, MBA, vice president of Corporate and Academic Alliances at University of Phoenix.

Through Workforce Solutions companies are not only ensuring that they are developing and nurturing the talent within their own ranks but also positioning themselves as desirable employers for top job candidates. With workers increasingly looking for opportunities to develop skills on the job, having an academic alliance in place and visible training and course opportunities will help attract engaged and motivated employees looking to invest their talent in the right company.

As Woods said, people today go into jobs with distinct expectations including “flexibility, mentorship and opportunities and support for development.” They are unwilling to compromise, he said: “They’re scrutinizing the position they have and whether the organization they’re with can do those things for them. People are looking with a much more critical eye at the support they get from their employer.”

Companies Benefit from Partnerships with University of Phoenix

A number of businesses have collaborated with University of Phoenix in order to extend professional development opportunities to their employees. These organizations have benefitted from increased employee loyalty, attracting sought-after candidates and developing a more skilled workforce.

In one example, Woz U wanted to improve the IT talent gap and help to create a skilled tech workforce and so partnered with University of Phoenix to create Woz Enterprise. This bootcamp-style program for community college graduates is designed to teach the essential tech skills to prepare students to serve as apprentices in STEM fields. Through the program, students are prepared to continue a four-year IT degree at University of Phoenix and eventually to enter the job market in IT roles. “The market is getting more and more challenging for employers to find skilled talent,” said Nathan Jones, director of product development at University of Phoenix. “We’re working together not just to skill employees up but to make them valuable throughout their careers.”

The hotel giant Best Western has also teamed up with University of Phoenix to offer education to employees as well as customized hospitality certificates. Through the arrangement, Best Western staff are eligible to earn credits toward their University of Phoenix degrees through their professional work experience, reducing the cost and time needed to complete a degree. “We don’t just measure success in terms of revenue,” said Michael Morton, vice president of operations at Best Western Hotels and Resorts. “Our main focus is on providing a positive environment in which employees feel cared for, recognized, supported and celebrated.”

  • Learn and Evolve with Humility: On Leadership with InfraBuild CEO Vik Bansal

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India — Leadership is a hot topic at the moment. As the coronavirus pandemic has challenged norms in practically every aspect of modern society, now more than ever it has become important that we are able to look to those placed in a position of leadership for security, direction and inspiration.

Leaders help us to identify, understand and refine our purpose. Through the stewardship of leaders, we are able to better align our thoughts and clarify the reasons behind our work. A good leader is one who facilitates the growth of those who follow them, greatly enhancing our potential for success and achievement by maximizing our ability to perform.

For Vik Bansal, as chief executive officer of the Australian integrated steel manufacturing and recycling company InfraBuild it is his job to be custodian of the organization’s values. “I think leaders set the tone of the company. I take personal responsibility for that. That’s my job to deliver. Of course I’m responsible to the board and it is my job and duty to show them what I’m doing, but I take full responsibility for the culture of the organization,” said Bansal.

With over twenty years of leadership experience under his belt, Bansal has said that he strongly believes there is no singular approach that will result in success every time. Instead, through time and experience each person must find their own style and approach that best aligns with their unique personality traits and the larger context of the business they serve. However, in reflecting on his personal leadership journey he does believe that there are core principles that provide a solid foundation for leadership that is effective, strong and built to last.

In all that he has learned over the course of his two decade career, Bansal has found that humility  is an essential trait at the core of every good leader. In order to lead effectively one must be able to consistently learn and grow, admitting that no one knows it all and embracing this fact rather than resisting it.

“The ideal of the natural ‘born’ leader is nonsensical,” said Bansal. “It’s a naïve notion. You can be smart, you can be intelligent, you can be the brightest man or woman in the world – but without humility you can’t actually lead.”

According to Bansal his own leadership journey reflects this, as his approach to the role has matured over time and with experience. Playing sports as a youth in India, from an early age he had developed a good understanding of team dynamics and how to motivate people which naturally lent itself to his early days in leadership. However, it was the root of his own personal motivation that in hindsight Bansal wishes he would have had the self-awareness to check at the time.

“At the early stages of my career that was the driving force – it was me, ambition, my way or the highway. And as you evolve as a leader, evolve as manager, as you actually evolve as a human being, you understand it’s never about you. The product would still be successful without me, and quite often leaders just make everything about themselves,” said Bansal.

While Bansal was still able to get his teams excited  and highly motivated in his earlier leadership positions, he has said that ultimately that style of leadership was not a sustainable, long-term approach. While wanting to succeed as an individual is natural – especially when we are young and early in our careers – focusing on delivering results and outcomes as a means for personal progress will inevitably not build strength for the organization as a whole.

As Bansal moved into the mid-stages of his career, he learned to widen his focus and consider the performance and positioning of the teams he was responsible for leading over his own personal ambitions. When you are put in a leadership position you are no longer beholden to just yourself, and a good leader must learn to make the success and wellbeing of those who they lead a priority. “A focused, high-performing team can achieve more than any individual can on their own,” said Bansal.

In his most recent positions as chief executive officer of large corporations, Bansal has come to understand  that his leadership decisions and style now affect thousands of lives, with the web extending past direct subordinates to every employee, their families, customers, and the communities his company serves. As a result, his focus is now on the health of the entire organization. A leader sets the tone and culture for those they lead, and it is important to acknowledge that role and accept it with humility.

At no point in modern history has it perhaps been more important for a leader to develop the ability to change and evolve. The world has experienced a fundamental and accelerated shift as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ripple effect has stretched to practically every aspect of the modern workplace. “ESG” factors––how a business approaches its relationship with the environment, its social responsibility and its corporate governance––are increasingly being scrutinized as stakeholders seek a different level of returns from businesses.

“With the emergence of environmental, social and corporate governance, stakeholders are asking for different levels of returns from business,” said Bansal. “Employees are asking for different working conditions and leadership. Workers want more than just a pay cheque, and investors are looking for more than a financial return.”

A business is no longer simply expected to generate profits for its shareholders in order to be considered a good organization. Investors want to see a company’s ability to achieve longevity, and employees and workers have new needs that must be met. A paycheck is often no longer enough to motivate individuals––and there are questions as to if it ever really was––for a more fulfilled workforce they must believe what they are doing each day is having a larger impact and helping to achieve the greater purpose of the organization.

“As leaders we need to be mindful of the environment we create and enable in our workplaces. We want and need our people––truly the biggest asset to any organization ––to feel comfortable in bringing their ‘whole-self’ to work, said Bansal.”

When we think of leading a company or organization, we will often consider the business decisions this involves such as directing teams or setting and achieving goals. However, it is important to remember that it is people, not robots that are being led, and as such the mental health and wellbeing of employees must also be taken into consideration. The past two years have been a time of immense upheaval in many aspects of human life besides work––school closures, separation from family and friends––these may not directly affect the workplace, but they do impact the people within it.

“The cognitive demand and load on people––as they juggle employment, caring needs, emotional needs––cannot be underestimated,” said Bansal. “In hand with that, as people grapple and recalibrate their view on what modern work and life now looks like, is the very real potential for safety incidents to occur, as a result of distraction, disengagement or fatigue.”

Humility is required in order to effectively adapt to changes, as sometimes that means admitting you were wrong in a previous belief or approach to doing business. One example provided by Bansal  was the concept of flexible work arrangements, which he admitted to have been cynical about prior to the pandemic. However, when the lockdowns occurred, working went remote and businesses were able to survive––and indeed often thrive–– with flexible and remote arrangements, he has since come to accept that it is indeed possible and a necessary evolution for modern businesses.

Without a dissenting opinion on flexible work arrangements, Bansal may have never been given the opportunity to change his viewpoint on the subject. This is why it is necessary for leaders to develop a culture in which it is encouraged that the people and teams within it feel open to challenging the status quo. Diversity of thought, open discussion and differing viewpoints have been proven to result in faster business outcomes and more effective strategic planning, and a leader with humility is accepting of this.

“Consultation and collaboration can catch considerations that may have been overlooked, and through participation and discussion all key stakeholders are provided the opportunity to contribute and develop a shared sense of ownership,” said Bansal.

For Bansal, he has learned that effective leadership  is about facilitating a constructive dialogue in which ideas can be challenged and interrogated. He notes that these should always be directed at the ideas themselves rather than people, and through balancing this with the responsibility of sometimes having to be the one to make the tough decisions good leadership can be achieved.

However, the reverse side of this coin is that once a decision has been made, a leader must ensure that those they lead are committed and united in sharing the vision. Leadership means acting as a signpost to those who follow them within a company, as people look to both the words they say and the actions they take for direction. When there is division or a lack of cohesiveness when it comes to support for a direction decided upon, the entire organization can suffer as it becomes a domino effect of lack of engagement and buy-in.

“You should intellectually challenge ideas, you should intellectually challenge concepts, and you should intellectually challenge the direction,” said Bansal. “But once it has been agreed, if you can’t emotionally surrender to the cause, you are consistently letting the team down. If you don’t have humility as a human being you are consistently challenging everything because you are challenging for the wrong reasons.”

  • Dfinity’s ICP, Bitcoin, and Ethereum: What Threshold ECDSA Signing Means For Crypto

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India — These days, the word “cryptocurrency” inspires a myriad of thoughts. For those more familiar with the space, the term may conjure up thoughts of bitcoin, ether, Dfinity’s ICP, or other altcoins. Individuals participating in the blockchain industry may think of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), decentralized finance (DeFi), or other related subindustries made possible by this new creation.

What seldom comes to mind is how the mechanics of cryptocurrency are even possible. These days, the ability to safely and securely send and receive cryptocurrency in a trustless — without third-party involvement — manner is largely taken for granted.

As several blockchains begin to mature, and as the need to interact across blockchains begins to rise, communities are starting to realize the importance of this topic, especially as cross-chain transactions become more desired by crypto users.

The recent news of an upcoming bitcoin integration makes that project just one of the many that Dfinity and the Internet Computer blockchain are actively working on and discussing. Within the year, Dfinity’s Internet Computer blockchain aims to make it possible for both the Internet Computer and bitcoin to interact with each other directly — all without the need for bridges.

How are such things done, and how does the underlying technology make it possible for these interactions to happen? We explore further in the sections below.

The word “crypto” traces its roots back to Greece (the Greek word “kryptós” translates to “hidden”).

Cryptography, which is the field of computer science that makes cryptocurrency possible, has existed since 1900 B.C. — making the field more than 3,900 years old and one of the oldest areas of science in existence. The first use of cryptography was discovered in ancient Egypt, found in the tomb of Khnumhotep II, a high-ranking noble who served during the 12th Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom period. In this tomb, “unexpected hieroglyphs were used in place of usual ones.” While it remains relatively unknown whether or not this was done to hide meanings,  it marks the first known time a message was transformed from its original text.

Fast-forward thousands of years later, and humanity has evolved from this initial form of cryptography to significantly more sophisticated methods made possible via enormous strides in mathematics, computer science, and technology.

An Overview of RSA, DSA, and ECDSA

    RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman) Algorithm

Our research shows  probably one of the most common and familiar forms of cryptography known to the public is the RSA algorithm. RSA is an asymmetric cryptography algorithm, which means that it uses a private key and a public key. Many who work white-collar jobs may be familiar with RSA SecurID tokens, which are used during the process of connecting to a virtual private network (VPN). This connection, often needed by employees to access their company’s intranet, is one of the most common uses of RSA (and, by extension, cryptography) in today’s world.

To build an understanding of cryptography algorithms and encryption methods, it may help to explore briefly how RSA works using an asymmetric cryptography algorithm. On a high level, the concept is simple. Two keys — one known as a private key and the other as a public key — are initially created. For private keys to be effective, it must be kept safely and securely with knowledge of the key’s information kept only by a singular person or entity. Conversely, public keys can be distributed to anyone in the world.

A more user-friendly analogy can be drawn by referencing sending, receiving, and accessing emails works. The private key would be a user’s email password, while the public key would be the user’s email address. Anyone can have a user’s email address but only the user who owns the account can have the private key (password) to access the contents of the email inbox.

Research shows that RSA works similarly. RSA-encrypted messages  will first secure the message with the recipient’s public key (comparable to typing a recipient’s email address in an email). The public key enciphers (encrypts) the message, after which it’s  sent to the intended recipient. The recipient, upon receiving the message, can only access the contents of the message by entering their private key to decipher (decrypt) the encryption (similar to typing in a password to enter into a user’s email inbox).

Invented in the late 1970s, RSA has existed for decades and continues to be one of the most efficient and effective ways of securing information and leveraging the benefits of cryptography in the modern world.

    DSA (Digital Signature Algorithm)

From the late 1970s, the science of cryptography continued to evolve and grow as governments, corporations, and entities worldwide increasingly acknowledged the growing importance of protecting data, intellectual property, research, and more.

In the early 1990s, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a government agency of the United States Department of Commerce, proposed a new cryptographic system for digital signatures.

What is a digital signature and why are they needed?

According to the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, digital signatures are a “mathematical algorithm routinely used to validate the authenticity and integrity of a message.” In layman’s terms, digital signatures are a form of online identification that helps tie a digital file to a unique sender. As the world continues to conduct more and more transactions and correspondences online, research shows digital signatures are critical so parties in a particular transaction can expect the transactions were conducted between trusted parties — something digital signatures help facilitate.

Understanding how the RSA algorithm works, it won’t be too difficult to understand how digital signatures function, because at a high level the concept works similarly.

While RSA focuses on ensuring that only the recipient of a message can decipher a transaction, the focus of digital signatures is to ensure the recipient can verify the authenticity of the sender. Therefore, using digital signatures, senders encrypt using their private key, while recipients decrypt the same transaction using the public key, verifying the provenance of the signer of the message.

The intricacies of exactly how the digital signature algorithm functions are beyond the scope of this article. However, research reveals DSA is considered to be a Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) for digital signatures, which builds on the concept of how digital signatures are to work by functioning on a “framework of modular exponentiation and discrete logarithmic problems.” This framework strengthens digital signatures by making them difficult to crack via brute force attacks.

ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm)

Research shows that, unbeknownst to most cryptocurrency participants, the ECDSA signature verification algorithm is the cryptography that works behind the scenes for the world’s two most popular cryptocurrencies – bitcoin and ether. ECDSA, which is considered an alternative technique to RSA, is tied to DSA by working as an elliptic curve implementation of the digital signature algorithm.

As mentioned earlier, Dfinity’s Internet Computer is working on an integration of bitcoin. Bitcoin leverages ECDSA  for the transactions on its network. As a result, Dfinity’s IC is developing the capabilities needed related to this algorithm to safely, securely, and successfully interact with the bitcoin blockchain.

Surprisingly, ECDSA has been in existence since the mid-1980s. Possibly because it’s been overshadowed by the more common use of RSA and DSA, ECDSA remains a type of cryptography that’s not commonly referenced in everyday life.

Previously, we explained digital signatures. But what exactly is meant by elliptic curve cryptography?

Students who paid attention during advanced math classes may have learned the concept of elliptic curves. Without getting too mathematical, an elliptic curve is the set of points that satisfy the equation:

    y2 = x3 + ax + b

Reviewing the above equation, it’s clear that the variables “a” and “b” can contain an infinite range of numbers. However, it’s important to note that the bitcoin and ethereum networks utilize a very specific version of the elliptic curve. To define the curve used by these networks, parameters have been defined such that a = 0 and b = 7. Plugging into the previous formula, this produces the updated elliptic curve equation:

    y2 = x3 + 7

This specific elliptic curve is also known as Secp256k1, which references the parameters of the specific curve utilized for both bitcoin and ethereum and is used along with the SHA256 hash function to digitally sign the transaction/file on the underlying blockchain.

Without getting into the specifics of exactly how the ECDSA operates, this cryptography method offers several advantages over the RSA and DSA methods covered previously.

Between RSA and ECDSA, ECDSA is significantly more complex due to the usage of elliptic curves, thus offering greater cryptographic strength than RSA. From a key size perspective, ECDSA uses much shorter keys in comparison to RSA,  which requires longer keys to provide a similar level of security. Due to this difference in key size, performance is also enhanced (meaning less processing power required) for ECDSA in comparison to RSA.

Between ECDSA and DSA, the difference lies in performance (speed and length of keys). Whereas DSA requires a key length of 3,072 bits to provide 128 bits of security, ECDSA needs only key lengths of 256 bits to achieve the same level of security.

ECDSA and What It Means for Dfinity’s Integration of Bitcoin and Ethereum

As briefly mentioned above, both the bitcoin and ethereum networks leverage ECDSA as the cryptographic algorithm to ensure that funds are only spent by those who truly own them.

The Dfinity Foundation announced in late February 2022 that bitcoin smart contracts would be coming to the Internet Computer blockchain. These BTC smart contracts would be made possible as a result of Dfinity’s bitcoin integration, which allows Dfinity IC canisters to “obtain ECDSA public keys and to securely sign messages under that public key.” This means that the Internet Computer has a direct integration with bitcoin wherein both networks are able to talk with one another. As a result, bitcoin transactions on the Internet Computer blockchain would be completely trustless, requiring no bridge and no dependency on any third parties, alleviating significant security concerns as bridges have been (and continue to be) targets of interest for nefarious Web3 actors.

Future plans are in place for the same integration between the Internet Computer and the ethereum network. Dfinity also plans to have interoperability with other blockchains beyond bitcoin and ethereum and is positioning itself as a solution to assist those chains in some of the most critical areas associated with blockchains — storage costs, computation costs, and scalability.

From a storage cost perspective, casual ethereum blockchain users may be shocked to learn that one GB of smart contract data could cost upwards of $100M on the ethereum network. Conversely, the same amount of storage on the Internet Computer would cost approximately $5.

Heavy ethereum users during 2021 and early 2022 will be familiar with the term “gas wars,” where peak times of ethereum usage (e.g. perhaps associated with NFT minting) drove the costs of using the network to hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. Conversely, with Dfinity’s Internet Computer’s ultra low computation and transaction costs, the financial barriers that everyday users must face in utilizing the network are removed, thereby paving the way for greater opportunities to scale.

    Exciting Next Steps

It is hard to imagine that the proposal to integrate bitcoin with Dfinity’s Internet Computer took place only during the final days of Q3 2021. Less than nine months later, the integration is not only in full swing, but the latest ETA estimates have the integration arriving during May 2022.

With a successful integration, and ethereum, as well as other blockchain integrations on the horizon, research shows that there’s a lot to be excited about for Dfinity’s Internet Computer blockchain. Leveraging all the benefits of these underlying chains, along with all the benefits of the Internet Computer (true decentralization, lighting-fast speeds, extremely low costs, and interoperability), blockchain technologies, crypto transactions, and the world of Web3 are about to get a lot more exciting.

  • Dr. Vinoth Arumugam – REASONS WHY PEOPLE NEED GOOD DENTAL CARE

Melbourne, Australia — Dr. Vinoth Arumugam says Maintaining a healthy mouth, teeth, and gums necessitates regular dental hygiene. It will also improve your physical appearance and overall quality of life. The mouth is sometimes referred to as the “portal” to one’s entire health. Taking care of your teeth and gums improperly can lead to a range of health issues. Oral health is crucial for everything from tooth loss and gum disease to heart disease and diabetes.

Bad dental hygiene habits can lead to a variety of issues. The most visible issues would be decaying teeth and gums. Gum disease can lead to loose teeth, cavities, infections, and other complications. Not properly caring for your teeth might result in pain and, in the worst-case scenario, tooth loss. It can, however, be avoided.

Brushing and flossing your teeth on a daily basis, as well as visiting your dentist for checkups and routine treatment, are the greatest ways to avoid problems with your teeth and gums. You will have a high chance of keeping your mouth healthy if you take good care of your teeth.

“A healthy smile can significantly improve our physical appearance, our mental outlook, and the health of not only our mouth but also our entire body.” Says Dr. Vinoth Arumugam, a professional dental practitioner.

But what are the health advantages of maintaining good oral hygiene?

    • Keeping our teeth for life

Brushing our teeth twice a day, eating a low-sugar diet, and seeing our dentist on a regular basis can help to lower the risk of disorders like dental decay and gum disease, both of which can lead to tooth loss.

According to studies, the number of teeth we have has a strong correlation with how long we will live. Those who had 20 or more teeth at the age of 70 had a much better probability of surviving longer than those who had fewer than 20 teeth.

Tooth loss due to tooth decay and gum disease is virtually entirely preventable, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to preserve our teeth for the rest of our lives if we follow a proper daily oral hygiene practice.

    • Lowering the illness risk

When we have gum disease, bacteria from our mouth can enter our bloodstream and cause illness. The body then generates a protein that thickens the blood. This increases the chance of clotting and deprives the heart of the nutrition and oxygen it requires, increasing the risk of a heart attack.

Gum disease can also induce blood vessel inflammation, which can obstruct blood flow to the brain, potentially resulting in a stroke.

We are also more likely to acquire diabetes if we have gum disease, according to new research.

    • Cancer and dementia risks are reduced.

We are more likely to minimize our risk of some cancers, particularly in women, as well as various forms of dementia, if we maintain our teeth and gums healthy.

According to new research, women with a history of gum disease are 14 percent more likely to acquire cancer. The study looked at data from 65,000 postmenopausal women between the ages of 54 and 86. One in every three of these women acquired breast cancer, and the risk of lung cancer, esophageal cancer, gall bladder cancer, and skin cancer was also significantly enhanced.

People with healthy gums are also 70 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than people who have had gum disease for a long time.

    • Keeping up our appearance

Bad breath can be avoided by keeping our teeth clean and healthy (halitosis). Bad breath is a typical indication of gum disease and tooth decay, as well as being humiliating and unattractive. It is often caused by a buildup of plaque and is a marker of gum disease and tooth decay.

Tooth staining is another prevalent ailment that can have an impact on our look. Tooth staining is a natural occurrence that occurs as a result of normal wear and tear, such as smoking or drinking a lot of tea, coffee, or red wine.

Stained teeth are rarely hazardous, and they have minimal impact on our dental health. Even if discolored teeth can make us feel self-conscious.

We should be able to prevent surface staining with regular cleaning in most situations, but more tenacious stains may require the assistance of a dental professional.

You and dental health specialists make up your dental health team. You can avoid many dental problems from affecting your quality of life and potentially triggering medical complications if you work together. Says Dr. Vinoth Arumugam

    Your dental health professionals include:

    • Dentist
    • Dental Hygienist

    Dental specialists:

    • Periodontist
    • Orthodontist
    • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
    • It Has an Impact on Your Overall Health

Your mouth acts as a portal to your body’s interior organs. The mouth is also a good place to look for early indications of systemic disorders. Systemic disorders, such as diabetes, can manifest themselves in the mouth as a lesion or other dental issues, such as gum infection.

According to Harvard University research, persons with periodontal disease have a higher risk of heart disease. Periodontal disease, according to this study, raises the body’s inflammatory burden. Chronic inflammation can affect many different regions of the body, including the arteries.

Aside from diabetes and cardiovascular disease, poor dental hygiene can lead to the following health problems:

    • Bacterial Pneumonia
    • Infective Endocarditis
    • Pregnancy Complications
    • Low Birth Weight
    • Cancer
    • Sepsis

Keeping your teeth and mouth clean can help reduce your risk of developing health problems. To maintain good oral health and cleanliness, it’s also a good idea to schedule regular dental visits every six months.

    • Assists your dentist in developing an oral treatment plan for you.

Each patient’s dental problems and oral anatomy are unique. During routine dental appointments, these diseases can be detected. Dental examinations can assist in the creation of a dental plan that is tailored to each patient’s specific needs.

Dr. Vinoth Arumugam will work with you to create an oral care plan, whether you are self-conscious about your teeth misalignment or have severe dental decay. The purpose is to assist you reach your dental goals, while ensuring good oral health and hygiene.

    • To Have a Whiter and More Vibrant Smile

Do you have the courage to show off your pearly whites?

You must maintain good dental hygiene on a daily basis to maintain a healthy smile. Plaque-free teeth can make you feel more confident when you smile.

These are just a few of the many reasons why dental hygiene is crucial. Maintaining good oral hygiene is beneficial not just to your teeth but also to your general health.

Here are a few pointers to help you achieve and maintain proper dental hygiene:

    • Avoid sugary snacks and eat healthful foods.
    • Tobacco products should be avoided.
    • After meals, rinse your mouth with water or consume sugarless gum.
    • Brushing your teeth at least twice a day, or after each meal, is recommended.
    • When participating in contact sports, wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth.
    • If you grind your teeth while sleeping, a nightguard can help.

  • DAR Becomes the First CEX and DEX that Gives Back to Crypto Users

This community driven token on the Binance network focuses on legally retrieving stolen assets by scammers and ruggers.

Stratford, CT:  Over a short period of time, and in the middle of a pandemic, the founders of DAR, or Digital Asset Recovery LLC have found a way to legally go after individuals who are behind the scams and slow fund thefts that are happening in the crypto world.  The first company of its kind, DAR set out in 2021 to begin an auditing process for utility tokens that enable end users to launch, purchase and exchange safe assets while still utilizing the lowest exchange rates possible.  With over 500 members, DAR has not only met this expectation, but surpassed it offering a plethora of services to their members that suits anyone anywhere regardless of skill.  This means that beginners and seasoned crypto investors alike are able to easily access and invest in cryptocurrency as well as store it in their recently trademarked DAR Vault™ that protects them from having to worry about dusting or connecting to draining addresses.

When we asked the CEO of DAR to tell us in his own words what he found most satisfying about reaching these goals in his business he stated simply, “We feel like we have built something safe and life-changing here at DAR, and while it has been somewhat of a struggle to get here, I am proud of what we have accomplished so far.  I am ready to keep moving forward and being a voice in the community that others can trust.”

The success that DAR has built is based on a platform of five main services, which include:

    • DAR Exchange Platform:  The platform specializes in the lowest fees that are offered to the cryptocurrency community, and gives investors access to legitimate, well vetted tokens that offer a solid utility.  The tokens listed on the exchange meet certain requirements, and are vetted by the DAR Audit team, as well as interviewed by the CEO Matt Wenta personally.
    • DAR Auditing Process:  The DAR Auditing Process is the vetting process for coins to be listed on the DAR Exchange and DAR DEX Platform.  The DAR Audit team investigates misinformation, hidden wallet components, hidden tax not affiliated with the contract, how tax funds are utilized, where tax funds are sent, and finally how many legitimate wallet addresses are present prior to/during launch.
    • DEX Platform:  The DEX Platform allows Crap tokens to be allowed on the DARDEX and labeled on a 3-tier system that gives investors a space to invest in riskier coins.  10% of revenue goes back to the DDT holders.  Holders of a certain number of DDT will be able to access special features of the DEX Platform.
    • DAR Dex Token (WBNB/DDT) – The DAR utility token for the DAR DEX Platform is currently on the BNB platform.  It will launch on the ERC-20 in the near future and these tokens will be bridged after launch.  DDT is available for purchase on DAR Exchange and Pancake Swap.  Holders of DDT will also be able to purchase items for the DAR multiplayer first person shooter game being released later this year.

Another component of concern for Matt Wenta and his team at DAR has been to allow users an exchange process that wasn’t just about swapping.  Wenta comments, “I wanted to close the gap between Decentralized and Centralized exchanges, allowing more users that didn’t know anything about Decentralized finance projects to have access to amazing use cases and utilities.”  While most exchanges don’t allow these smaller MarketCap tokens to be listed on a Centralized Exchange due to risk, DAR was able to this with the following process:

    1. Adding the token onto an exchange that has a utility that would not be considered a security.
    2. Having developers on hand to do a full vetting process, or KYC (Know Your Client) so that if anything happens the token is held liable.
    3. DAR provides a gateway so that people can purchase tokens with a Credit or Debit card or even PayPal, as well as the DAR Vault™ which gives users a unique way of storing their cryptocurrency.
    4. The DAR Vault™ also allows users to swap on the wallet itself so that they don’t have a need to transfer tokens out of the Vault, which is a revolutionary concept.

About DAR – Digital Asset Recovery LLC.:  DAR is a cryptocurrency company based in Stratford, CT.  The company was founded in 2021 by Matt Wenta, and carefully crafted their platform to enable users of all backgrounds and education levels to take advantage of a safe environment to launch, sell, swap, and exchange cryptocurrency with their innovative technology and responsive audit team.  DAR is a 100% community developed project that actively goes after scammers and ruggers who have stolen funds from the crypto space.

In addition to their revolutionary DAR Vault™ they will be offering NFT’s on the Polygon blockchain accessible with Opensea for their Battleverse online, multiplayer, first person shooter game.  DAR has some amazing projects coming up outlined in their whitepages.  You can also stay up to date on their releases via Twitter, or Facebook.  DAR is also proud to announce that they are sponsoring the #77 Bassett Racing Team in NASCAR this year.  If you are interested in learning more you can email the DAR team, browse their website, or follow them on social media.  DAR also has a Discord channel, and encourage you to join the conversation!

  • BeamStarter: Introduction and Seed Sale Closure Announcement

Warsaw, Poland – BeamStarter, the first IDO launchpad on Moonbeam Network, has announced its seed round closure.

As of today, the blockchain market is saturated with launchpads for projects to do Initial DEX Offering (IDO). The idea behind these launchpads was to give retail investors access to high quality projects and give the projects a platform to engage large communities to raise project awareness. Unfortunately, launchpads became more focused towards projects and compromised on retail investors’ needs. In order to address some of the key issues of the sector, the BeamStarter team decided to bring the best launchpad on the best blockchain!

Introducing BeamStarter — the first cross-chain launchpad on Moonbeam Network to host and launch innovative projects on Moonbeam and beyond.

BeamStarter: Launching the first launchpad on Moonbeam Network to bring the best user experience

BeamStarter is the first launchpad on Moonbeam Network which is leveraging Polkadot’s cross-chain security feature while providing its community the same legacy tools thus taking their IDO experience to the next level. It provides some of the best and much needed features in the blockchain market; such as:

    • Timely Liquidity Add and Token Distribution: Despite a successful IDO, it’s more than often that projects fail to add liquidity or distribute tokens on time to its investors that results in poor experience of a participant.
    • Most launchpads have either no governance or a weak governance model.
    • No cross-chain bridge to move tokens between blockchains. It’s a fact that multi-chain is the future. All projects would eventually launch on multiple blockchains to capture a greater share of the market.
    • No one-stop-shop solutions for new projects. Everyday there are several projects coming out in blockchain space with their aim to disrupt an existing sector but more than often they only have business knowledge not blockchain. So, there is a need for a holistic package for such newcomers to support them in their project lifecycle.

Closing of BeamStarter’s $150k Seed Round

BeamStarter is pleased to announce that it has successfully closed its seed round to build the next-level launchpad. The seed round sale had 15 million BeamStart tokens assigned at a price of $0.01 USD, thus raising a total of $150k USD through individual investors as well as influencers/VCs.

BeamStarter is preparing for its private and strategic sale rounds to raise more funds to expand its team and to build a holistic launchpad platform focused on serving retail investors while handholding projects throughout their lifecycle. Follow their twitter and telegram to stay updated!

    About BeamStarter

Built on Moonbeam, BeamStarter’s mission is to provide a comprehensive package of services by positioning itself as the one-stop cross-chain launchpad for innovative crypto projects. Taking your IDO experience to the next level!
